I met my John over 10 years ago. Never then would I have imagined this life. John and I both worked in restaurants since we were married. Prior to that John was in the Air Force and served 2 tours in Iraq and I in college. For 5 years John worked long hours and spent more time at the restaurant than I could have imagined, but we loved it. Growing up with my father owning restaurants I should have known better....
John always had a love of fishing. We owned a bass boat before we owned much else. He was a regular at the local bait and tackle miles from our home on the Harris Chain of Lakes. He befriended the owner, a older gentlemen who had ran the place for many years. 33 years going strong in the same location. This place was cool.
When Bill, the older gentleman, decided it was time to retire, he asked John if he was interested in taking over the place. In taking over Bill meant to buy it. John, who typically thinks with any other part than his head , of course said yes.
After I talked him down from his cloud and crushed his dreams, I tried to make him understand the financials. You see, by day I am an accountant. In fact I have a Masters of Accounting and tend to think very differently than John. But just as he did when he wanted to buy the "Monster Truck" who he named Phenomenon and I named Homewrecker, he usually has a way of persuading me. So, here we are 2 years later and we are the proud owners of Southern Tackleworks!
And so, that's where this story begins. As a Southern Born and Bred Gal who married a Yankee from New Jersey (you must say New Jersey with that accent), never would I have pictured this life. As southern as I may be, I also never thought I would love to fish or even bait a hook for that matter. My how things change. I have gone from a high maintenance "belle" to a high maintenance, fishing addicted, full-time working, bait slingin', Box Top Mom of 2 boys who married the tackle guy and I wouldn't change a thing! :)
